I'm Clearly Winning This Week, Join The Challenge!

Posted by Lady Mel On Friday, April 15, 2011 1 comments

Hi guys! It's been over a month. I know, I know. Forgive me, but I brought you a basket for your patience!

Ok while I was away, I entered the 2011 UMDNJ Employee Health and Wellness Weight Loss Competition. I initially aimed at winning the grand prize; a FREE three-month gym membership at the Newark YMCA Center at UMDNJ. During the contest, I drank more water, cut down my carbohydrates, ate more fruits and vegetables, and walked more.

The contest consisted of three weight-ins from January 15th to March 25th, in addition to a free nutrition session by a licensed UMDNJ nutritionist that helped participants with their bad eating habits. 35 participants and 11 pounds less later, I came in second-place! I was not even disappointed because I was already a winner. The hardest part now is to continue losing weight and eating right. If you are interested in losing weight, I advise the following tips:

1. Take it slow. Progress does not come overnight. To avoid depression and eating disorders, take it one pound at a time. I was competing with myself, not with my peers.

2. DONT and I mean DONT weight yourself. The only times that I did this were during the scheduled weigh- ins with the University Hospital (UH) Food & Nutrition Department. I don't want people to feel self-conscious about their bodies every single time they weigh themselves. You must have a clear mind and break this habit. I trained myself to not do this from the get go and it paid off.

3. Eat what you want and then some. Learn how to balance your favorite food with healthier supplements. For lunch now, I will buy a container of salad and a small plate of chicken wings and French fries. On every other weekend, I will buy Chinese takeout but I will make sure to eat my vegetables and burn calories by walking the next day. If you want to slowly lose weight, you can try this approach. Otherwise, talk to your doctors about other drastic options.

What's next? Apply the very same determination towards my graduate school applications. Oh what a night! Are you up for the challenge? How are you losing weight?

You are going to break Jake's heart or
Vice Versa.
And then make millions off of writing
An album about your relationship with him.
It's inevitable.
Is your 15 minutes of fame up now?

Hi everyone! The one and only Lady Mel is here to give you the latest in my awesome world. Lets get down to business!

@iHeartChina- LadyMel, I know this is old news, but did you vote in the 2010 midterm elections and which party did you vote 4?

China, would you be pissed if I did not vote this year? Ya, I was filming an commercial for my new shoe line in Hong Kong that day. It was not worth the effort or time really. When I am confident about the economy, and the direction of this country, then I will.

@PrinceAndrew482 - Gerard Butler's birthday is today. U attending his many b-day parties?

I will be attending a couple tonight in LA. Gerard is a good friend of mine. We met months before his "Law Abriding Citizen" film came out. Just friends. Never dated him. Not his female toddy. But he is a nice piece of ass though. ;]

@Kicca_Dane- What is wrong with Kanye West? The "Today Show" appearance ftl.

I honestly do not know. Mommy issues? Egotistical Douchebag Syndrome ? He is just a waste of time for me. Next.

Before I leave for the week, I want to thank Randomista  for presenting me with this:  the IDGAF Blog Award. I want everyone to check out here blog. She is amazing. IDGAF, if you don't know by now means, "I Don't Give a F$$$." And what the negativity around me at times, I don't give a F$$$$ about them. It's all about me. Picture of the Week personified. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Hi everyone! This is the lovely Lady Mel! I will now start every Friday or Saturday with the "Lady Mel's Corner". It's a space where I get to answer three Twitter questions from my lovely fans! And I'll conclude each session with my most favorite picture or word or something of every week. It's more of a weekly recap of all things happening in my world. Lets begin! (Disclaimer: LadyMel is MY alter ego. We will have slight differences of opinion sometimes, but that is why alter egos are oh so awesome. Carry on.)

1. @HappyGoLucky- What do you think about this week's Glee episode?

I absolutely loveddd it! All the duets were awesome especially Kurt's solo, and Santana's and Mercedes's. However I find it rude that Santana and Mercedes sung together and there was not a problem but since Kurt is openly gay and wanted to sing with Sam [isn't he hot?!?!] , it becomes a major problem on the show. I don't blame the creator, it's our society.

2. @PrincessDivine45- Which movie this weekend are you looking forward to see?  XOXOXO

Red! Redddddd! Watch it. No one can resist Bruce Willis's and Helen Mirren's ultimate badassness. It's a comedy/action packed film.

3. @JohnAHoe- I go to Yale. Did you hear about the Yale Delta Kappa Epsilon sexist fiasco?

Of course I have. And what makes it sad is that these young men will one day become our next executives, leaders, and future presidents. I did not know the state of manhood was this bad. But never fear, John! Since I am a loyal Jezebel.com fan, I wrote a counterargument in the form of a rant similar to the one the fraternity boys were raging in the video. You can find it here just scroll down.

My name is Kat (not really lol)
And I hate these frats
I'll challenge all of them
In the name of feminism!

No means yes
Yes makes you have issues

Fuck patriarchy!
Fuck patriarchy!
(repeats)

Fucking douchebags
Fucking douchebags
(repeats)

Jezebel!
Jezebel!

Finally, here is my Picture of the Week! Isn't he precious?!

Hi everyone! I know you all missed me.

Ok, so everyone has been buzzing about Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg's 100 million donation to the City of Newark. If you have not noticed, I currently live in Newark. I was born and raise in Newark and I am very excited that there are billionaire entrepreneurs out there that are willing to donate their money to the less fortunate. Perhaps Zuckerburg can integrate his social media interface into getting these students to learn and think big. Newark public schools need it, especially in this recession.

However, I fear that Mayor Cory Booker and his administration are going to mishandle that money and use it for their own purposes. So Mark Zuckerberg, if you are out there, make damn sure you have a thorough business plan to implement that money into the Newark public school system the right way. Newark is known for its political corruption. Newark is possibly the only city in the state of New Jersey that does not have a mall. Malls create jobs. They may not create high paying jobs, but given that 43.6 million are living below the poverty line in this country alone, something is better than nothing, and I think even with the new Prudential Arena, more needs to be done. We have the land, we just have stubborn, greedy individuals in power that have used the politics of fear to blind the public of reality for the last forty years. I do not understand why Oprah Winfrey does not see the truth either.

Onto other news, I finally got an interview with Apple Retail. Saturday morning! 10:00am. Upper West Side store! Very excited. I have come a long way to not be nervous. I know what I have to do. Wish me good luck and everyone have a lovely weekend!

Oooo I forgot, this is the picture of the week. I am a fallen soul, an awesome soul, full of passion and dreams.

What do you think about this Facebook announcement? What do you know about Newark politics? What will you do this weekend?

Eleven are dead, why?
Millions of barrels are spilled
The hands of greed, why?

I apologize for not posting anything yesterday. I was celebrating my birthday with a close friend in the Big Apple! We spend several hours at David and Busters and shopping around Times Square yesterday! It was fun, but then I realized that you need $$ to buy things in NYC, which I did not have a lot of. This experience has motivated me to find a part-time, paying job!

On Tuesday, my department treated me to lunch at iHop and on Wednesday, my sister and I saw "Sex and the City 2" and "Get Him to the Greek" for my birthday. All interesting movies in their own special and unique way, but I will say is that P.Diddy in the latter movie was unfunny and condescending and Jonah Hill looks like a fat guinea pig. Overall, I celebrated my birthday went quite well and I hope to be more open-minded and fearless next year.

In other news.......

Last Sunday, I saw the 2010 MTV Movies Awards and I was quite disappointed. None of my predictions came true. The Twilight franchise took five awards: Best Kiss, Best Male Performance, Best Movie, Best Female Performance, and Global Superstar. I think I have had it with Twilight. I have seen the first two movies. There were less than average movies. The voting influence and power of teenie boopers and middle aged women these days is frightening to my ears. Twilight has made the MTV Movies Award a joke at a time when MTV has become a joke. Surprisingly, Ellipse is coming out on June 30th and I am not look forward to watching it.

I hate Twilight people.

However, I am looking forward to the third season of True Blood on HBO tomorrow night! I AM SO EXCITED and here is why:
  • John Manganiello's Alicide is one hot sex on a stick. Jacob who?
  • This season premieres four days after my birthday. Late birthday present!
  • The show is bringing "sexy werewolves back" on the show, unlike Underworld, The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. Alicide is probably the sexiest one of them all.
  • The growing sexual tension between Sookie and Eric. I want hot make-out scenes.
  • A possible love quadrangle between Sookie, Alicide, Bill, and Eric?
  • The actors on the show have amazing chemistry together and are trained professionals. For instance, Anna Paquin is an Academy award-winning actress, while Rutina Wesley went to Juilliard.
  • The show is unpredictable, despite the typical love story. Remember, Maryann's dark influence over Bon Temp in season 2? She was one crazy bitch...
True Blood has it all: great actors, amazing characters, great plot developments, and it has only been two seasons so far. I just hope this season's finale was better than last season's. True Blood is on a whole another level than the Twilight franchise.

Finally, my Picture of the Week!

This week has been a lucky week for moi. On Wednesday, I received a free month of Wow from the lovely CTRL ALT WoW crew! CTRL ALT WoW is a weekly World of Warcraft podcast hosted by four crazy WoW fans: Aprillian, Ashayo, El Jeppy and Vrishna. They discuss WoW politics and the entertaining process of creating alternate toons on multiple servers.

I started listening to them about two weeks ago from a Ladies of Leet acquaintance of mine and I find them quite hilarious. When I heard my name at the end of the latest podcast, my mouth was literally opened. I had to play the end part like three times to make sure I was hearing right because I usually do not win anything. So this is a shout out to the CTRL ALT WoW crew, for making my WoW dreams come true. I love you guys! I cannot wait to return to the game!

In other news...

I received the Geek Girls Unite Award from the lovely Ray J! I must in return list ten geeky facts about me:

1. I am a casual WoW player. Been playing since Burning Crusade.
2. I am a popular culture geek. I know almost 90% about Hollywood and the entertainment industry. I have dozens of celebrity gossip, fashion, and media blogs listed in my Google Reader to prove it.
3. I am a video gamer, but have not play video console games for years. I still have skills. ^_^
4. I have a blog.
5. I am a social media addict.
6. I went to Smith College.
7. I still have my Pokemon cards lying somewhere in the house. I remembered when having a holographic Charizard, Blastoise, or Venusaur 1st edition card meant you were a Pokemon master in training.
8. I took two years of Japanese at college and now in the process of relearning the language. Has not been hard until I start writing the kanji again.
9.  I was born into the world of 90s and 00s anime shows. I want Toonami back on Cartoon Network.
10. I read tech and social media blogs. (Mashable, TechCrunch, and Gizmodo to name a few).

To keep the tradition alive, I am giving this award to:
Johana @ The Mercurial Wife

Johana has been my most active commentator and online friend. Her blog is amazing! She even helped me redesigned my Tumblr blog! Check it out! If Johana used her web design skills to make my blog links functional, then she is a certificated geek! :) Grats Johana! Come on down and claim your award!

Finally, the Picture of the Week! Have a wonderful Memorial Weekend! Speaking of which, what are your plans for Memorial Weekend?

Tumblr, Ray J's WoW Giveaway, Picture of the Week

Posted by Lady Mel On Friday, May 21, 2010 2 comments

I have thought about switching to Wordpress. I've decided to not go with that plan. But I have decided to start a smaller, new blog on Tumblr! Expect it to come out next week! It is going to be separate from this blog. I have collected hundreds of random pictures online over the years. So many pictures, I have at least three USB flash drives full of them. Now, I can showcase them in a more simplistic form. I can find really good pictures, videos, and quotes. Expect to see my carefree, artistic side. Hopefully by Monday, I will post the Tumblr url. If you have a Tumblr blog, I want to connect with you.

In other news!

Disclaimer: If you are a WOW fan, please continue!

I have been following Ray J's blog for about a month now and in celebration of her fifth World of Warcraft anniversary (Vanilla WoW veteran), Ray J is giving away a free $25 Amazon Gift Card! See guidelines here. There are 5 ways to enter the contest, including following Ray J on Twitter. If you do not play WoW, you can use the gift-card for books, games, music, or whatever your little heart desires.

Also before I forget,  it seems that I have drifted away from my celebrities, so I will dedicate next week with all new entertainment related blog posts. I have to go back to my roots!

Last but not least, the Picture of the Week!

My Beautiful Blogger Award

Posted by Lady Mel On Friday, May 7, 2010 2 comments

On Wednesday, my good friend Johana presented me with this baby here:

I want to thank Johanna so much. This is my first award! I was not excepted it. Johana has been one of my favorite active readers and commentators. I encourage all my RSS subscribers and followers to check out her blog if you haven't already. She is an amazing writer. If you need a laugh when you feel like kicking a can at a cute, innocent kitten, she will brighten up your day.

I also want to thank the Academy and my followers for believing in me! This one is for you as well. I'm suppose to divulge in 7 random facts about myself but like Johana, I am going to break the rules as well. You will know more about me as I continue with this blog. This award will be shelved on the right side of my blog so marvel it at its glory. Otherwise, have a wonderful weekend! ^_^
