First of all, I am not a lesbian. But I do have five girlie crushes and I am not afraid to kiss and tell. Some have the whole package: brains, beauty, and brawn, while others I am not too fond of, but I cannot resist their mysterious charms. Here are the five female actresses that sold my heart.
1. Christina Hendricks
Ever since I saw her as the sultry Saffron in the sci-fi cult TV show Firefly, I knew that she was special. Then I saw her in some Mad Men episodes and I fell in love with her femme fatale demeanor and underrated power as the head female secretary in a 1950's pre-feminist America. What I envy the most out of her? Her curvaceous body! I want my body to look like hers someday. I might have to lay low on the fatty foods and exercise once in a while, but that will not happen any time soon. Plus, we have the same first name! :)
2. Angelina Jolie
Lets deal with the facts. Every man and women wants to have sex with her. She is undoubtedly beautiful and well known by some as the Queen of the Tabloids and the woman who took away Brad Pitt from ex-wife Jennifer Aniston in late 2004. What I truly admire about this woman is that she is the complete package. She can wield several weapons at once, fight the world of modern slavery, poverty, and violence as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, and still have time to nurse her growing football team. Who can juggle all those life commitments and still have time to film a movie in Venice with Johnny Depp? Duh, no one.
Some people are going to say, "Christina, are you fucking serious?" How can you possibly have Megan Fox on your list?" Hear me out. Last September, I wrote that Megan Fox was just a wannabe, tasteless actress with only good genetics. I made that comment before I watched Jennifer's Body. I still feel that way, but since that day, she has grown a little on me. She will never be a talented actress until she can willingly shred that bad girl, femme fetal image of hers and find scripts worth meaningful and transformative for her career path. After viewing the movie three weeks ago, Megan Fox has put a magic spell on me. I cannot explain it, but what I do know is that she has this magnetic aura that even the haters behind closed doors cannot ignore.
So there you have it. What female or male celebs would you go lesbo or gay for? Do not be afraid. It is 2010 after all. *sarcasm*
The 67th annual Golden Globes is this Sunday night and everyone who loves the entertainment industry like I do should watch it because everyone will be there. I hope to watch more of these nominated films before the Academy Awards seasons really kicks in high gear next month. So before you use your remote control to turn in, I want to give you my insights on the renowed movies and television awards show:
1. More Brangelina Drama: Sources say that the Hollywood mega couple will not, I repeat will not attend the Golden Globes because Jennifer Aniston is an awards presenter this year and they do not want any more altercations. If even they do not appear on the red carpet because of this, it is still drama. Can people just move on? Plus, Gerard Butler is a presenter too. He has had a busy and successful year with a screw of movies including The Ugly Truth. He will probably co-present with Aniston since they have a movie together coming up this March called "Bounty Hunter". Woot!
What happened to movies with substance and great plot development? Underneath, the technicality of this film lies a predictable storyline. I do not want this Golden Globes to be reminiscent of the 1997 Oscars when Cameron's Titanic won eleven Academy Awards, although it was a typical love story. I want both. I want movies to be mentally and visually stimulating. Although, Blade Runner and the Matrix trilogy were similarly ground-breaking for their visual effects and dystopian landscapes, there were philosophical undertones to the plot development. Those films made you think. Avatar is purely entertainment.
3. Gabourey Sidibe Should Win for Best Actress: When I saw her as a guest on the Conan O'Brien show before it got axed, she has this bubbly, precocious energy that is anything other her character in the controversial indie film, Precious. People think this film is dark and edgy for its openness to the domestic violence and rape epidemics in the urban culture in this country, but everyone is or knows someone who are going through these hardships regardless of race or social environment. Just because you may a wealthy white man with a fabulous AMG bonus and villa in the Italian countryside does not mean you can hide your father's drug problems and history of attempted suicides from the rest of us. Everyone has problems. This movie shows the realities of the human plight in its modern form. I am surprised that this movie is not even nominated for best Picture or best Director because this film is an accurate representation of what life is today. Maybe because the director is African-American or because the film was heavily financed by black media moguls Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry? I do not know. I hope that she also wins the Oscar for Best Actress, but I do not want her to win it and not get any future opportunities to showcase her acting talents.
4. Sandra Bullock, Lucky Gem: Bullock has had a great year. Her two successful million dollars films, the Proposal and the Blind Side have made her an Oscar front runner for Best Actress. She will win for Best Actress in a comedy or musical for the Proposal, but like everyone else, The Proposal was not even a good movie and she should have been nominated for her touching role in the Blind Side instead.
5. Other Highlights: On the television side, 30 Rock will win for Best TV Comedy series and SNL veteran Tina Fey will win for Best Actress in a Comedy TV series for 30 Rock. I really, really want True Blood to win for Best Television Drama because I am a big fan of the show and all the actors on there are phenomenal! I am anxiously waiting for the HBO premiere of the third season as we speak, yet the hit HBO show will have some stiff competition with TV drama heavyweight Mad Men for the top spot. The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be live this Sunday, January 17th live at 8pm EST on NBC. Be there.
I followed the most recognizable Hollywood couple ever during their 10-day world tour. I was chased by hungry looking white tigers in Thailand. I rode tall Asian elephants across the Himalayas Mountains in 110 degree weather. All for an one-hour interview. Do you think it is worth it? I do! I'm a part-time freelance writer and this is my big break! I asked the very tough questions !! Oh what joy! ^.^ You can catch my whole interview in next Friday's Entertainment Weekly issue. Of course, people are going to find this on the Internet. So for the people out there, copy and paste this to everyone!
Lady Mel: Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. How are you two today?
Angelina: I am doing quite good today (looks at Brad slyly) I've managed to get the kids to sleep. We have been up all night. Yesterday was a very busy day.
Brad: Yeah, it took us like five hours to get them to sleep. They are hyperactive, inquisitive little creatures that need attention almost every second of the day. It's quite astounding.
Lady Mel: I saw Shiloh's tomboyish attire in a recent photo. Will she become a tomboy when she goes up?
Angelina: I don't know. Like who cares? If she wants to wear pink little dresses for the rest of her life, so be it. If she wants to wear sweats and a T-shirt and call it a day, I don't care. It's her decision. I let her be a fashion lunatic.
LadyMel: Brad, you have millions of fans across the world. You get paid millions to do Japanese commercials. Do you think of yourself as a pretty boy or a serious "Hollywood" actor?
Brad: (puzzled). I consider myself a serious actor. When I make movies, I put my heart and soul into each role. I may not get recognized for such roles, but it is the humility and determination that counts.
LadyMel: Then, why do you suck in almost everyone of your movies? The only ones that I like you in are Legends of the Fall, Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I seriously don't know why you are so famous.
Brad: (in a strong voice) Correction. I think that is your opinion. All my fans love my movies. Where have you been in the past 20 years?
LadyMel: Watching good movies. Maybe you are famous because of your highly-publicized string of Hollywood romances with Gwendolyn Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, and now Angelina Jolie. (Brad chuckles). Speaking of which, how's Jennifer these days? I heard you guys are still friends even after your messy divorce.
Brad: (Angelina stares at Brad quite rudely) Jennifer is still one of my good friends. She is out there making movies, you know doing what she loves best. I support her 100%.
LadyMel: Uhm, but her movies suck big time.
Brad: But, it is always a matter of opinion. She has done a great service in Hollywood. That is why I appreciate her hard work in this industry. We have a special, congenial bond between one another and I would never abadoned her just because we are no longer married.......
Angelina: (Interrupts) But now, he has built a family with me and I could not never be more happier. (Changes subject) What is that around your neck, LadyMel?
LadyMel: Oh, do you like it? It's a gold necklace. (Opens necklace) My younger sister gave it to me about six months ago. Inside is a picture of my youngest niece Prue. (Angelina and Brad bend over to look at picture. Angelina smirks. I grabbed necklace). Oh, No, No, No! Don't even think about Missy!
Angelina: Think about what? I think she's beautiful. (Wide smile). Don't you think Brad?
Brad: Yup, she kinda looked like Vivenne when she was around six months old.
Angelina: How much you want for her? How can I get in contact with your sister?
LadyMel: (angrily) She is not for sale! She is a human being for Christ's sake, not one of your Hollywood trends! (calms down) I think we need a break here. May I use your bathroom?
Angelina: (Puzzled and confused look on face). I'm deeply sorry. I did not know what came over me.
Brad: Absolutely. I think we all need a five minute break. The bathroom is the second door to your right.
LadyMel: Thank.. you.. (runs to bathroom quite quickly to the hallway)
Brad: See what you have done, Angie. No more kids! We already have six. No wonder the tabloids think we are crazy. I should have chained you to the bed post.....
