New Windows Phone 7 Ad is Brilliant!

Posted by Lady Mel On Tuesday, October 12, 2010 2 comments

Smart-phone users are insane. My sister is one and I can imagine how much time she spends on her Sprint E-Vo everyday. I recently participated in a Harvard Business Review discussion on Linkedin.com about the use of texting while in a meeting or other social function. People these days are using technology and forgetting how to conduct themselves in even the most intimate settings like the bedroom as shown in the YouTube clip. I am a product of this phenomenon, I admit. Five seconds after watching "The Social Network", I told Radale that I was going to log onto Facebook to check my updates once I returned home, despite my harsh criticism of the film. And I did.

Luckily, I do not have the luxury of owning or using a smart phone because of my financial situation or I would have been enchanted by the screen of a iPhone 4 or Android. I am aware of Microsoft's slow process to produce a reliable smart phone over the years, but I guess now you have to save say the best for last, right? But this commercial is absolutely brilliant.

From a marketing perspective, Microsoft wants us to understand as the audience that, "Smart phones are bad, but smart phone users are even worse. We have to mock other smart phone brands like Apple and RIM because it is fun and legal. But the new Windows 7 Phone is also a smart phone but who cares because our commercial is so epic." Love the concept, Microsoft!

How did you like the commercial?

Hi everyone! I know you all missed me.

Ok, so everyone has been buzzing about Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg's 100 million donation to the City of Newark. If you have not noticed, I currently live in Newark. I was born and raise in Newark and I am very excited that there are billionaire entrepreneurs out there that are willing to donate their money to the less fortunate. Perhaps Zuckerburg can integrate his social media interface into getting these students to learn and think big. Newark public schools need it, especially in this recession.

However, I fear that Mayor Cory Booker and his administration are going to mishandle that money and use it for their own purposes. So Mark Zuckerberg, if you are out there, make damn sure you have a thorough business plan to implement that money into the Newark public school system the right way. Newark is known for its political corruption. Newark is possibly the only city in the state of New Jersey that does not have a mall. Malls create jobs. They may not create high paying jobs, but given that 43.6 million are living below the poverty line in this country alone, something is better than nothing, and I think even with the new Prudential Arena, more needs to be done. We have the land, we just have stubborn, greedy individuals in power that have used the politics of fear to blind the public of reality for the last forty years. I do not understand why Oprah Winfrey does not see the truth either.

Onto other news, I finally got an interview with Apple Retail. Saturday morning! 10:00am. Upper West Side store! Very excited. I have come a long way to not be nervous. I know what I have to do. Wish me good luck and everyone have a lovely weekend!

Oooo I forgot, this is the picture of the week. I am a fallen soul, an awesome soul, full of passion and dreams.

What do you think about this Facebook announcement? What do you know about Newark politics? What will you do this weekend?

Happy Fourth of July!

Confessions of an Apple Newbie: My Apple Retail Regrets

Posted by Lady Mel On Tuesday, May 4, 2010 6 comments

Hello, everyone! This afternoon, I attended the Apple hiring event at the Residence Inn in Times Square. I wore my business suit, walked into the room, filled out a survey, met with several Apple employees and recruiters, and took part in a two-hour seminar. I listened to other candidates' Apple moments with enthusiasm. But during those two hours, something was wrong.

I was not concerned that more candidates have more experience with Apple products. Each and every candidate came with a different, diverse background, including myself. I am worried  because I did not get it to show my personality more in front of the Apple crazed audience. When I presented my introduction and group activity, I stumbled on words and took longer to make my points. I felt like I was inadequate.  But I can be delusional. Perhaps the Apple recruiters loved with what I had to say, but I sure did not feel the same way. I just do not know from this point. I am proud that I went to college, got an college education, and soul-searched for the past year. But, something was missing in the equation and I cannot put my finger on it....

Then as I listened to the young applicants retrospect their previous Apple retail experiences as customers, I felt almost completely left out because I have not been to an Apple Store before. I live in Newark, NJ. If you do not know about the history of this city, google it. There are not any Apple Retail Stores in Newark or in nearby towns.

The closest Apple Stores are in Manhattan, but my parents and I do not travel to New York City as often unless to drop off things for my sister at LIU. They have jobs. Currently, I do not have a paying job so if I were to commute to NYC to visit the 5th Avenue or Upper West Side Apple Store, I clearly don't have the finances to buy new Apple products unless it is a iPod Nano. I wish there was an Apple Store at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth, NJ. It is the largest mall in the state and only 30 minutes from my house and it does not even have an Apple Store. Is it unacceptable for someone to apply to an Apple retail position, but she/he has never been inside an Apple Retail Store prior? I have not thought about it until I arrived at the hotel....

Luckily, I have learned that I need to do a little more research on Apple, specially about its Mac OS X system. I have no idea if I will receive an individual interview with an Apple representative or not. I tried my best to demonstrate my best personality traits in this recruitment seminar. If I am given another chance, I will do everything in my power to prove that I make a great fit as a part-time, Inventory Control Specialist at one of Apple's Manhattan stores. On one side I think I belong in the Apple subculture but on the other, not so sure. I guess I have to wait and find out.

Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and Girls. I have an announcement to make. I have an interview....with... *drum roll please*......Apple Retail!!!! Tuesday night, I was checking my Gmail account and I came across this email like it was a Willy Wonka bar. I could not believe my eyes. I will be attending an Apple hiring event at Times Squares next Tuesday afternoon for a possible chance at a retail position at one of Apple's Manhattan stores! Hip, hip, HOORAY!

Until then, I will be preparing non-stop, researching more online and connecting with Apple representatives and insiders about their experiences. I am proud of myself because I am finally getting some recognition by the higher powers that be (Sorry Buffy & Angel). I hope to help others and learn what Apple Inc. is all about. If not, it will be a learning experience to remember. The biggest challenge is how I will balance this out with my recent Buzzfeed interview, but when the times comes, I will weigh the pros and cons and make a decision. That is a part of growing up, right?

By late tomorrow or Saturday, I will post next month's blogging schedule and for the rest of this week and next week, I will be busy so bear with me. Other than this, I am going to do my little dance in my chair *wiggles* and be the busy bumblebee that I am. Woot!

P.S- Post your best wishes and high praises in the comment box below.

Everyone has been blogging about the iPhone 4GS prototype investigation for over a week now. R.E.A.C.T's possession of Gizmodo's editor Jason Chen's Internet property adds another dimension to the case. I do not need to summarize the whole situation for you. The above links has all the background information you need to form your own opinions. I am here to provide you, the blogger, with some meaningful advice that you can take away from this dispute. I am the neutral party and Devil's Advocate in this post. I do not favor Gizmodo's or Apple's actions over the other.

1. Be prepared and responsible for your own actions. When bloggers generate ideas and research blog topics for their blog posts, bloggers must give acknowledgement to the blogger, organization, or entity they took those ideas from if the content is not originally theirs. All bloggers must take responsibility for any possible backlashes or consequences when information is posted on their blogs.

Jason Chen took a risk when he posted his observations of the lost iPhone 4GS prototype on Gizmodo.com. Whether or not he knew that his findings would get him into legal trouble, Mr. Chen should have known that Apple Inc. will not act quietly to retrieve back its merchandise because it does not play when it comes to safeguarding its secrets and products. All bloggers must be accountable for every aspect of their personal brands, including the validity and potential value of your content. The First Amendment has its limitations you know.

2. The product is only one part of the brand. So what if someone leaked the next generation iPhone? If Apple was not as notoriously secretive as it is, Apple could have used this dispute as an excellent PR move to connect with its fanbase. Whether you detest Apple or not, Apple has created some amazing, trend-setting products. Apple generates Internet buzz whenever it launches a new product or updated version of its products. However, it seems that Apple does not even incorporate the customer in the product-marketing process.

For a multi-billion dollar company that strongly emphasizes on individuality and innovation, it seems one-minded when it comes to you, the consumer. Does Apple allow public relations representatives or engineers to tweet or use other social media outlets to engage current and future Apple customers about their projects or the company's status on these projects like Intel and Google? No. Apple frankly does not even have an official Facebook page.

If Apple desires bloggers and new media publications to discuss its products, it should embrace social media to communicate with its costumers and strengthen its cultural leverage and reputation. When Apple found out that Gizmodo possessed the missing iPhone, Apple's spokesperson could have made a public statement similar to this: "Yes, this is the prototype. We at Apple are at the initial stages of the new iPhone. We will deal with Gawker Media privately, but we encourage our supporters to add their output and suggestions about improving this device. We would be more than willing to reach out to them via [email, mail, social media, phone, etc.] Thank you for your time." Done.

Steve Jobs, if you are out there, have your supporters be a part of the beta-testing process and your social media campaign (if you decide to form one). When it comes to social media and social marketing, it should be a two-way street for the organization (or business) and its followers. I do not know what will happen next in this ordeal, but I will say is that bloggers should be more careful when things gets political.

What are your views about this ordeal? What should bloggers and the new media community do next? What should happen to Jason Chen or Gizmodo legally?

Tech Diva: The First 5 Things I Would Do With an iPad

Posted by Lady Mel On Sunday, April 18, 2010 0 comments

As you may not know, you have to shell out a load of cash to get an iPad or any of Apple's amazing products. I also know that us poor folks can only dream of getting our hands on one....maybe two to three years down the road... but as least we get one, right?! Now, if an iPad magically arrived at my doorstep this morning, here are the five things I would instantly do on my iPad:

1. Play World of Warcraft. I would intently use the iPad's touch-screen keyboard to miraculously keybind all my toons's spells and special attacks, so I can finally raid Icecrown Citadel and kill the Lich King. I do not care if it is not humanly possible yet, I want a freaking iPad!

2. Watch my favorite shows and movies during my spare time. What is more relaxing than to watch the Legend of the Seekers or Glee with the touch of my index finger? The pixels of each screenshot emits so much holy light, that I would feel like I was witnessing IMAX resolution without playing the extra $20.00.

3. Create posts and articles for my blog and connect with friends on social media. I would tell my blog followers that I blogged my new posts using the iPad, then continue to brag that I was chosen to be given a gift from the Greek gods of Mount Olympics. Bragging rights is equivalent to street credibility in the tech world. To be the cool cat with an iPad among millions of Twitterers will only get you so far. That is why you must bring along your iPad everywhere you go to draw out every hobo, hipster, and other non-existent person from hiding out in the darkness.

4. View my favorite magazines in HTML5 Format. Since, the iPad does not support Flash (I still am confused with the whole Adobe v. Apple ordeal), I could read Wired, Wall Street Journal, and other magazines and newspapers in the new HTML5 language. I want to experience what it is like to virtually "flip" over amazing, glossy photographs without the hussle of accumulating paper and garbage overtime.

5. Try out the iPad applications. Buying an Apple product is a blessing in disguise. Buying and testing out the thousands of iPhone, iPod, or iPad applications is an even greater privilege (if you have the $$$). Since, I do not possess an iPhone, I am missing out on the cool iPhone applications everyone has been taking about. With that, I would ask my Twitter friends for possible recommendations and research on my own to figure out which iPad applications are the best and coolest around.

What five things you would do first if you had a iPad?

Happy iPad Day! Is Steve Jobs A God?

iPad Pandemonium!

The iPad has finally made its global debut and I am pretty excited! Not because I personally cannot afford it yet, but because millions of Apple fans are rejoicing in their underwear. I have already seen video footage of people camping out as earlier as Tuesday outside several Apple Retail Stores, waiting to get their first taste of epicness. I have not seen this much anticipation since the first Harry Potter movie came out in 2001. I just hope the Apple Retail employees kicked them out after they purchased their iPads. It is unfortunate to see Apple hipsters lingering around the stores in the middle of the night like zombies. Though, I wish I was working at a Apple Retail Store because I want to see this madness firsthand.

Guest Blog: Writing Process

Anyway, I also want to mark another celebration. My guest blog post has finally arrived on the Internet! I want to thank Alex Roda for posting it on his website. He is a very funny and humble person and please, please check out this website. This guest blog was supposed to be written on Valentine's Day, but I already busy writing the "Tweetbag Wars" guest blog post. I knew that I was going to write about Apple. somehow. So I decided to center the blog post around an unlikely conversation between Apple chairman and founder, Steve Jobs, and two of his colleagues in his office. I cannot give away all the details, so please click on the link above and read the whole post. Apple is known for its well-kept secrets of its products and operations, so I wanted to parody that. It came out as a late, funny April Fool's Day joke.

Do you plan on buying a iPad in the future, and if you already have one, does it live up to the hype? Have a wonderful Eastern weekend!

Your Weekly Update

Posted by Lady Mel On Wednesday, March 24, 2010 0 comments

Hey everyone. I have some important news to deliver:

So far, I am in good standing in the 2010 Talent Buzz contest but I still need your support. Please spread the word about my article entitled, Alice in Twitterland: How to Retweet Like a Rockstar. When you click on the page, click the green retweet button on your right hand side! The contest either ends this Sunday or Monday.

Also, I am in the process of producing another wonderful guest blog with fellow blogger and Chatroulette star, Alec Rona, but I have a problem figuring out when I want to write about. I know it will be about Apple Inc. somehow, but the idea is not there yet. What do you think I should write about it?

Lastly, I have finally landed a volunteer opportunity at the Marketing/Communication department at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ Campus! I am pretty excited. I will probably start on the first week of April after the paperwork has been finalized. I believe it will be a one or two day a week gig, but I am still looking for paid, part-time/full-time work. Hopefully, I get this Apple position by mid April as well, so that I can start saving and investing. Overall, anything can happen.

Tech Diva: Ipads And Books And Print Media, Oh My!

Posted by Lady Mel On Thursday, March 4, 2010 0 comments

With a April 3rd release date the tentative release date and the overexposure the Ipad has been receiving on the Internet for the past month, consumers are still wondering whether or not Apple's newest creation is a worthy marketing venture to invest one's money in. In my "Steve Jobs, What Have You Done?" piece, I strongly believed that the Ipad will become a marketing success and I continue with that proposition.

Imagine a world with iPads during your college days. It was literally several months ago for me. I remembered my heavy black backpack, full with books, notebooks, and the occasional laptop. What if I had replaced my current Compaq Presario CQ70-120US laptop with a 64GB iPad? Do you know how much bag space I could had with a two pound "netbook" on my back? I could have saved many days and many nights walking up and down the Smith College campus. The convenience is maddening. I could have done all my homework and online research more effeciently with an iPad.

The iPad is going to redefine "space" once again. With the iPod, the user controls the flow of music, his/her emotional capabilities, and the social environment around him/her. A iPod user can literally shut off the emotional and mental demands of everyday life by becoming one with the music. With the iPad, professors, students, business people, and other professionals will control their work and social media activities, the presentation of such work, and their social interactions with other people around them.

Want to show off your portfolio to a potential employer or favorite college professor? Bingo! Bring out your Ipad and demonstrate your skills in a more professional and timely matter. My only concern with the iPad and other e-book devices is the digitalization of books. I want my books in my face, not on my computer. Magazines, newspapers, scholarly journals, articles, and annual reports are the exception.

Print magazine publications such as Wired Magazine and the Wall Street Journal will be available on the Ipad in digital form. With the Wired Magazine demonstration, it is like having the physical components of Wired Magazine, but in Adobe Elements format. With the Wired brand's strong readership, I would not be surprised if its fans are willing to pay a monthly fee to use the new Wired application on the iPad. Wired Magazine Editor-in-Chief Chris Anderson stated about this digital evolution, "The point here is that we are entering a new era of media, where we finally have a digital platform that allows us to retain all the rich visual features of high-gloss print, from lavish design to glorious photography, while augmenting it with video, animations, additional content and full interactivity."

I could not agree more with Anderson, but I have some questions. If other print magazines followed suit with this concept, what will happen to the online versions of these print magazines? Should they be included in the reconfiguration of print magazines on the iPad? I personally think if Wired Magazine gets to be digitalized on the iPad, so should Wired News (wired.com). Secondly, do you think every print magazine and newspaper will follow Wired Magazine in this approach? With traditional print media dying every day, they will be only a matter of time when the Internet will take over the print industry.

The Return: Shoutouts and Important Announcements

Posted by Lady Mel On Saturday, February 27, 2010 0 comments

Woot! It is good to be back on this blog. I enjoyed my so-called two-week blogging vacation. Now I am here to get back to business. I have so much content and ideas to share with you this upcoming week, it's unbearable! Lets begin:

1.  I want to give another shout out to Andhari for hosting my "Tweetbag Wars" post on her blog. I received  four new followers! Welcome! Make yourself feel at home here. You will not be disappointed and while you are at it, check out my previous blog posts from last year. They will give you a clue to what I blog about on this blog and my writing style. If you have any new ideas or topics you want me to discuss, feel free to email me  or leave a comment a comment. To all my current followers, welcome these newbies with open arms! Feel free to check out each other blogs or websites and socialize! Woot!

2. Last Wednesday (Feb. 17), I had an interview with two representatives of the Marketing Department at the UMDNJ (local hospital) campus for potential volunteer work. The interview went quite well. I networked with my doctor and informed her about my interests in new media and marketing. Luckily, she knew someone in the marketing department and contacted her so that I can set an interview with her and her boss. I truly want to thank her for this opportunity. Networking comes a long way. The two interviewers said I would get a final answer by the end of this week. However, I have not received a phone call or email yet, so I will give them another couple of days until I write my own follow up email.

3. I am almost done with my Apple Store Leader Program application. This is a retail position. If I get the job, I will collaborating with other smart and passionate people, learning the proper leadership and training to run a Apple Retail Store in my local area!

I think this is a great opportunity for me to branch out and build my people skills and retail experience and get into a company like Apple Inc. I believe that I can make a difference in people's lives and with my strong drive to succeed and optimism, nothing can stop me. The deadline is March 15 and the interview and final decision-making process takes place in April. If you are interested in marketing and sales, click here for more information. This program is only for college seniors and recent college graduates though.

4. I may have an interview with the managing editor at Switched.com next week and I am pretty excited. I just hope the interviewer reads my message and confirms a final interview time.

Within a two-week period, I have been quite busy, working my butt off to make things happen. For all you  unemployed and employed job seekers out there, how has your job search turned out within the past six months or so? Do you currently have a job, but in the process or looking for more productive work?

What Happens on Valentine's Day, Just Happens!

Posted by Lady Mel On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 0 comments

Time: February 9th, 2010
Place: LadyMel's stellar Soho apartment in NYC, around 3:00pm EST.

LadyMel is getting ready for the Valentine's Day's "Love For Haiti" charity benefit in Upper Manhattan tomorrow night. She and Prue, her long-time personal assistant/personal shopper, are frantically searching for the perfect outfit. Why you want ask? It's only a charity benefit right? Well, first of all a screw of media journalists and NY socialites will be there at the event so she has to look beyond presentable.

Secondly, all the proceeds from the food to the individual donations will be donated to several non-profit organizations including Save the Children and the American Red Cross that are at the front lies feeding and healing the victims of the January 12th Haiti earthquake, so first impressions must be perfect. Thirdly well, the Scottish heartthrob, Gerard Butler will be "auction" off to a potential young lady. That is all the NY socialites are there in the first place. The person with the highest bid will win a Valentine's Day date with the most wanted man in Hollywood. You know LadyMel must be on her A game because it's Gerard Butler!

LadyMel: (Mouth wide open, opens her closet doors in an overly dramatic way): Where is my life? I cannot find anything to wear for this banquet! Everyone is going to be there. Who is This "Mr. Butler"? He seems soooo..... whats the word? Bland, shall we say?  (Smirks then throws tons of expensive clothes to the ground.)

Prue: (with a Ipad in her hand, searches the Internet for the perfect dress) Mel, were you born yesterday?! He is the it-guy in Hollywood right now. I've seen all his movies. He's quite the ladies man but he has a heart of gold! He has grown, married women at his feet. I've been in his presence once and let me tell you, it was like my body was being controlled by his eyes. It's the eyes! He made me do things I would not even tell you. (Blushes)

LadyMel: (Stares at Prue quite playfully): Prue, you just went to one of his movie premieres and he signed your autograph T-shirt. Stop with the over-dramatic hyperboles. He's an average actor with good looks. He's quite talented as I have seen on the big screen, but he is not my cup of tea. (Continues to look in closet).

Prue: (Smirks): You just have not been out with a good man lately. Remember Robert? Paul? Kevinnnn?

LadyMel: (Talking to Prue as she reaches for a pair of Jimmy Cho shoes at the top of closet): All assholes. All Ivy-League, pompous assholes. And I hear Mr. Butler is a manwhore so I won't even bother.  Plus, I do not need a man or anyone of that nature in this point in my life. I have a future. I am financially independent. I'm driven and assertive. The world is not ready for this honey.

Prue: You are absolutely right. (Looks at Ipad.) Mel, you remember that Christian Dior store that just opened near Central Park?

LadyMel: Yea.

Prue: Well, if you are look this, we may have to take a little tour there. (LadyMel jumps down and looks at Ipad, eyes open wide with excitement).

LadyMel: I adore the dress. You know how much I love Christian Dior couture. But I want something that has a little more va va vom. You know how I feel when I see two or more celebrities with the same dress on, walking down the red carpet! I blame the stylist really. Is there anyway you could get Christian Dior to customize the dress for me?

Prue: Uhm, do you think Christian Dior has enough time to customize it considering that he will arrive to NYC from Paris this evening in preparation for New York Fashion Week. He is a very busy man. We only have three days until the big day too. We have to be realistic here.

LadyMel: (smiles confidently). I think you are right. That is why your are my ears and conscious when I need it. I know who to call when I have a fashion emergency. (Starts picking up the clothes from floor).  Call Rachel Zoe and tell her I need her badly. She owes me. Tell her I want to see her tomorrow morning.

Prue: Of course. What will you do with the dress after the banquet?

LadyMel: Auction it off online to help the Haitian victims. I know friends who are down there risking their own lives to save those people and I will do anything in my power to make the world a better place. That is why I am going to be the most stylish lady there and win that date with Gerard Butler.

Prue (Sarcastically):  I sure your intentions are clear.

LadyMel: I am doing this for the love of business and philanthropy. Nothing else.

Prue: (Smirks wildly). Says the biggest flirt on the planet.

LadyMel: Ok, I'm the biggest flirt, but can I have a serious side? This is my serious face. (Shows her serious face, Prue giggles.)

Prue: (Smirks). Whatever you say. Let me head down to your office and I'll call Rachel. She works wonders.

LadyMel: Most certainly. I'll follow. (Both ladies leave room).

Oops, Did I Say That: Valentine's Day Edition

Posted by Lady Mel On Sunday, February 7, 2010 0 comments

The all so fabulous Lady Mel ventured out on Twitter, asking some of her male celebrity admirers what their plans were this Valentine's Day. Luckily, all the responses were under 140 characters or less, I guess. What she received was a little bit out of the ordinary...

I'm going to say sweet nothings into my personal Ipad's ear and then we are going to make sweet Apple love under the sheets. By morning, my Ipad will be inside my "vanilla envelope" if you get what I mean. (No I don't.)

My wife Suzi and I will be on a romantic cruise on the mystical oceans of Pandora. While we sit inside our private suite, I will have two Na'vi musicians play the violin and cello as I read her a poem all in Na'vi. Does not get any better than that. (No, you are just a geek!)

Bee and I are private people so we won't tell you our plans. What we will say is that Niche is our next destination. Then I will hang out with a good friend of me. (*cough Rihanna cough*)

I am going to indulge in all the splendid Valentine's Day sweets and chocolates, then I am going to pop my pills and have a good time celebrating self-love. (No comment...)

Tech Diva: Magical IPad Parody

Posted by Lady Mel On Friday, February 5, 2010 2 comments

The social commentary continues! Jackfilms presents "The Magical Ipad", a commercial parody that is so full of win. I still on my mini break, but I tweeted on Twitter about the video last night so I had to share it with you guys. It makes fun of the Apple brand, Steve Jobs, and the mixed bag we call the "Ipad". Say this isn't all true?! Watch it below.

Tech Diva: Steve Jobs, What Have You Done?

Posted by Lady Mel On Thursday, January 28, 2010 0 comments

Apple's latest invention, "The Ipad", has arrived and everyone is talking. The developments of the much-hyped computer tablet has been known for years. But when Steve Job finally introduced it to the world at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts San Francisco yesterday, it automatically became a part of the popular culture commentary and discourse. On Twitter, people have tweeted up a storm about it for its witty name reference to female menstruation and the female genitalia.

Jezebel.com's Latoya Peterson compiled a list of the best Ipad "period" jokes off of Twitter. I personally think Apple should have chosen a hipper and more sophisticated name to market its newest product, but I think Apple was innovative enough to pick the name to get everyone to gossip about it, even if it is being compared to a tampon. Bad press is better than none. I wonder if SNL will make a  "IPad" parody soon. Wait a second. MadTV, despite its TV cancellation last year, already beat us to it with its 2007 Ipod parody sketch!

Lets get down to business. I have been reading and hearing mixed results about Apple's new "netbook". Wired.com senior editor Nick Thompson was a guest on CNN yesterday and he asserted that the Ipad was a good product but not revolutionary like how the Ipod and the Iphone revolutionized the music and smartphone industries respectively. According to a Gadget Lab poll, out of 892 Wired.com readers, 41% said that the Ipad did not live up to the hype but will gain traction among high end costumers. Only 14% believed that it was better than expected.

So what is my take on the announcement? Well, I think the Ipad will be revolutionary in the near future. Just like when the Ipod came out in 2001, it was a bit bulky in size and did not come in color. There were bugs and technical problems with it, but over the past several years and several Ipod generations later, the current Ipods are nothing like the first Ipods. They are more smaller and slicker and come in different vibrant colors and sizes than its predecessor. Plus, the current Ipods can hold more music, video, and audio files than the first IPod model.

I believe that the first model of the Ipad will be imperfect and it will take some time for the bugs to be corrected. But like many Apple consumers, they are going to buy this first model and purchase all the newest versions because this is Apple that we are talking about. Apple is going to reinvent the Ipad over and over again until new applications are added and it becomes the perfect netbook. Whether or not the Ipad will save the media and publishing industries, I do not know.

However, media and publishing industries that have been given consumers access to their free web content for years (I know who are you!) should not rely on just one company to save them from extinction. Apple is not the federal government, giving away our taxpaying money (bailout money) to the greedy media companies because print journalism in many respects is dying and free content generate little  profit. (I am so awesome). These companies should think of innovative ideas to gain more annual revenues and reach more viewers. That is why marketing directors and experts are hired to work in these organizations in the first place. Use them wisely.

Tech Diva: End of the Decade Edition

Posted by Lady Mel On Monday, December 28, 2009 0 comments

Every online website and cable news network from Time Magazine to CNBC has shared their own lists of  the best and worst celebrity scandals or ideas of the last decade. And now I am going to give you my rundown of the lessons that I have learned since the year 2000. I still cannot believe it has been ten years already since the start of the twenty-first century. I am getting old.

1. Don't Fuck With The Terrorists: I apologize for using the f word, but I had to. With 9/11, this recent attempted Christmas bombing of a commercial airplane heading to Detroit, and the Fort Hood massacre still lingers in the hearts and minds of the American public, I do not want to be in the way of their plans for mass destruction and terrorism. And I am not only talking about Islamic fundamentalists.

I am talking about the seemingly liberal media, government agencies, and other American institutions that continues to undermine the potential and progression of the American people. Not all media people are terrorists. I love NYMag.com, Huffington Post, and other online blogs and websites. But I know when to draw a line between the facts and sensationalism. So do not screw with the terrorists. Learn to overcome their campaigns of fear the best way you can. The politics of fear is the most destructive weapon of all. I've learned to not take every breaking news with a grain of salt. Take control your life or they will.

2. Douchebags Rule the World: If you have not read my wicked Halloween tale yet, I strongly recommend you read it. Douchebags rule the world basically. Jon Gosselin thinks he is a living, breathing male god who is now rumored to have lied about a home invasion only to get publicity. He is a douchebag because he has not grown up to support his eight children. A douchebag would not allow his children to be on television in the first place.

A doucebag could be the nice neighbor, your ex, your psychopathic brother or even you. Stars like Kanye West, Richard Heenes, the White House Crashers, Dave Letterman, Charlie Sheen, and Tiger Woods are just the high-profile ones. The list goes on and on. You can take a douche bag out of Hollywood but you cannot take Hollywood out of the douche bag. The last of the most intelligent people on Earth should reclaim the planet from these people or by December 21, 2012, the world might come to an end. So when you write your New Years Resolutions people, please promise me to either convert the douche bags in your life to reasonable human beings or ignore them altogether.

3. Technology Has Redeemed Itself from the Dark Ages: With the highly-anticipated Google Nexus and the Apple Tablet coming out next year, I am glad that I do not have to use floppy disks and CDs anymore. I am glad that 2010 will bring us closer to the science fiction days of our childhood pasts. I am glad that we are a step closer to artificial intelligence and Star Wars technology. Did anyone notice that in one of my Tech Diva 2010 Prediction post, I predicted that Apple will come up with a new invention before I even knew that Apple was going to premiere the "Apple Tablet" sometime next month to the public. Haha, I'm good. So, Facebook and YouTube are in. Goodbye 20th century garbage. 21st century technology is our future.

4.  Celebrity Deaths Are Overrated: This decade will forever be known as the decade of the Greats. Michael Jackson, Brittany Murphy, Heath Ledger and Anna Nicole Smith all die due to reported drug overdoses and/or long histories of drug addiction. I still remember the day when I heard about MJ's untimely death. I just did not believe it because it's Michael Jackson we are talking about. The Michael Jackson. But there should be a line between at least a few days news coverage to about a year's worth of  untrue stories, fabricated truths, and millions of dollars of unnecessary publicity. Talk about the missing children of this world. I do not want to watch six months worth of the reasons why or maybe why Anne Nicole Smith died. There are other important things that matter to me. End of story.

So before you browse a newspaper or a popular search engine for information, activate your common sense and take yourself on a wild goose chase.

The Twelve Days of Christmas Remix

Posted by Lady Mel On Tuesday, December 22, 2009 1 comments

2009 was a very big year for pretty much anything from scandals, the inauguration of this country's first African-American president to the death of the King of Pop and the recently deceased Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy. So as I was planning on Christmas content for this blog, I decided what an unique way to celebrate the holidays and close a year of mayhem by remixing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" my way. It goes a little something like this:

(Guitar rift begins)
On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight miserable years with President Bush
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine angry teabaggers
Eight miserable years with President Bush
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me,
Ten political czars
Nine angry teabaggers
Eight miserable years with President Bush
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven years of Google Mania
Ten political czars
Nine angry teabaggers
Eight miserable years with President Bush
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve reasons to love LadyGaga
Eleven years of Google Mania
Ten political czars
Nine angry teabaggers
Eight miserable years with President Bush
Seven downloadable Itunes songs
Six months without Michael Jackson (moment of silence)
Five Tiger Wood mistresses,
Four tweets per minute,
Three dumb Kardashian sisters,
Two White House crashers,
And a copy of "Going Rogue" that I won't read!

Real IPhone Costumes and Updates

Posted by Lady Mel On Thursday, October 29, 2009 0 comments

Hi, everyone. I am taking a mini break from writing today. I hope you guys enjoyed my intense Halloween drama. I am in the works of planning the last (several as 10/30/09) installment right now. It will be posted by tomorrow afternoon. Please comment on yesterday's blog post and tell what you think so far. For those who do not know, my alter ego is LadyMel and I channel her energy in my blog. I also have some nice, unpredictable things in store for the ending. Or is there an ending to this horror story? Muahahahaha.

In the meanwhile, watch this cool video below. I was snooping on Mediabistro.com last night and I came across it. These two guys are wearing fabulous IPhone costumes that they actually built. They look very creative and usable like real IPhones in the market. I wonder if I can press their buttons. ^.^  I am such a flirt.

Youtube Gold

Hi everyone. I love comedy. I love watching funny and inspirational YouTube videos. It is my guilty pleasure. I need laughter to bring me out of the bad times and make me smile and feel that I have a purpose in life. Laughter is the best medicine. Like music, comedy is universal and so, today I want to show you some YouTube videos that I thought were raunchy, hilarious, and bluntly honest about popular culture, politics, social interactions, and anything that tries to define us as individuals in this paradoxical world. I think no matter where we all come from, we all need to smile and forgot our troubles and hardships for just one minute. Here we go!

Kevin's 2009 VMA Review:
If you are not a subscriber of The Skorpion Show on Youtube or not into Youtube for that matter, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Skorpion (aka Kevin) is hilarious in this video as he puts into perspective  the whole Kanye West/Taylor Swift and Janet/Beyonce/Lady Gaga controversies at this year's VMA Awards in NYC. Did I say he was a little tipsy?!

MadTV Teased Us Apple Style:
Now, back in the day I was a pretty big Mad TV fan and now that the show is cancelled (tear), I want to show you guys what made Mad TV 100% better than SNL. In this skit, Michael McDonalds mocks Apple CEO's Steve Jobs, the Apple brand, and the former Bush administration in less than 5 minutes!! Now, that is comedy gold in my opinion.

Katt Williams Does It Again!
The first several minutes of Katt Williams's 2008 comedy performance brought tears to my eyes when I saw it last year. And you will laugh your butt off. I guarantee that! Sometimes our hustles have to be poke fun at in order to help us get through the day.

ARE YOU HAPPY NOW !?!
